Police arrested the two accused in the Russian child rape case on January 29, three days after the 9-year-old was sexually assaulted on a north Goa beach.
Aman Bharadwaj (21), the main accused, was caught from Nehru Nagar in Mumbai, while his accomplice Anil Raghuvanshi (27) was held in Panjim.
“The Goa police told us they would be coming to Mumbai to arrest Bhardwaj,” said ACP Ritesh Kumar. “They had information he would be traveling through the area.” Bharadwaj will be produced in court on January 30.
DIG of Goa police, Ravindra Singh Yadav said Raghuvanshi was on his way to Bangalore on January 28 when the police got his cell phone number. “We asked him to surrender. He came back,” Yadav added. Raghuvanshi has been remanded to judicial custody.
Bharadwaj is from Bastar district of Uttar Pradesh while Raghuvanshi is from Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. They are employed at a pharmaceutical unit at Dhargal, 55 km north of Panjim.
