In any society or nation children are regarded as the greatest treasures since they are going to form the future. There remains hardly any difference between the girl child and the boy. To be very candid the girl child receives special care, warmth and concern since she will be the mother in the coming days. Other than this she is also going to shape the destiny of the nation to which she belongs and educate the posterity with traditional virtues and values. However, this used to be the consideration of the bygone ages, which is no longer in practice. On the contrary these have been transformed into colors of suppression. The most awful example of this is India where both children and their innocence are trounced daily in the name of tradition and culture. But the most deplorable condition is of the girl children. Even in these days the girl children are considered to be burden in different parts of the country and the concerned families are always ready to sacrifice them in the name of traditions and rituals. It is true that in the last few decades the country has made notable growth in various fields of which the Information Technology is worth mentioning. But at the same time it is also a cruel fact that the lowest sex ratio exists in the same country.
Till now, incidents of female feticide and infanticide have been much common in the rural India. The prominent reasons behind this sin are the patriarchal traditions, along with low status of women and son idolism. Well, these very notions have contributed in an alarming reduction of girl-boy ratio in the recent years. To the consideration of the Census report there has been a general reduction from 976 girls born every 1000 boys to 927 girls every 1000 boys in the recent years. This ratio in the northern part of India is even more shocking. Besides scarcity of girl education, nutrition, child marriage and absence of basic necessities are impeding the development of Indian children. If this continues for decades or more none can save the country from the impending disaster. The government has to come forward to take the necessary drastic steps and liberate the society from these social ailments.
