Bollywood – Aeonian Expression of Indian Scenario
Cinema not only expresses the human emotions but also depicts the society, vicinity around an individual and also its thought process. If this definition of cinema is reckoned as true, Bollywood or the Hindi film industry, which has for years expressed India in different manners, is the ideal specimen of it. This industry is the largest in India, both in terms of asset and influence, and is also compared with the other esteemed film industries of the international arena. This is indeed a recent phenomenon and became apparent in the recent decades escpecially since Bollywood started exposing itself in the global market. Nowadays, thanks to the Indian diaspora, Bollywood is having a worldwide recognition, especially in Western countries like UK, USA, Canada, and Australia where there is a large South Asian community.
The industry is fairly old and dates abck to the year 1913 when the first Bollywood movie Raja Harishchandra was released. Though it was a silent movie and in black and white, but even in those days it created a stir among the Indian population and attracted the attention of the royal class. Due to enthusiasm resulting from the success of the first movie lots of researches were conducted through the following decades. The culmination of all these endeavors witnessed the first Indian audible movie, Alam Ara in 1931. From that period till now Bollywood has traversed several ravages of history and social developments. It has been the silent witness of the freedom struggle, nationalization in the country, fiery 70s to the recent onslaught of consumerism. What is most striking all these developments found their best manifestations in the films of Bollywood that in the garb of commercialism made people conscious of the basic reality.
This has certainly heightened the dignity of the industry and is therefore the choicest of many throughtout the world. It has a strong following in millions in the South Asian countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, due to the introduction of diversifications in different aspects, of late, it is getting popular in several countries like South Africa, Nigeria and Morocco.
