Hyderabad is the capital city of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The greater Hyderabad has an estimated population of 10 million and has rendered the city A-1 status in the recent years. Besides the city is both the second largest (in terms of area) and the sixth largest metropolitan area in the country. For hundreds of years the city has been known for its aristocrarcy, culture, rich history, architecture and also as the conflunence of the north and south Indian cultures. Hyderabad is also the proud possessor of a multilingual culture in terms of both geography and culture. The city is moreover known as the City of Nizams and also as the City of Pearls.
Geographically the city is situated on the Deccan Plateau and has an average elevation of about 500 metres above sea level (1640 ft). Although most of the area has a rocky terrain, the surrounding areas have good accounts of paddy cultivation along with other crops. The city enjoys a tropical wet and dry climate. The months of summer range from March to June and the wet monsoon season from July to October. The original city of Hyderabad was founded on the banks of river Musi. However, with the passing of centuries and the gradual development of its twin city, Secunderabad, Hyderabad has become a large and populous metropolitan area.
The city was founded in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, a member of the ruling Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golconda. It also went under the Mughal rule during the reign of Aurungzeb but for a short time. The following periods witnessed several rulers in the throne till the advent of the mighty Nizamshahi. The rule of the seven Nizams actually witnessed the establishment of modern Hyderbad and its overall development. Their prosperous rule made Hyderabad richest and the largest among the princely states of India. In the post-independence period the state was forced to sign the Instrument of Accession to the Indian Union after India initiated an economic blocade. In the following years on linguistic grounds the territories of the State of Hyderabd was divided among Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Hyderabad is the financial and economic capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh and is esteemed for years due to its traditional industries. Truly speaking, there has been massive invetment in this sector and has made it the next Silicon Valley of India after Bangalore.
